Keeping the Northern Rivers Switched On

We’re excited to share plans for a new clean energy project in Northern NSW that will help power Australia’s future.  

Situated on a 580‑hectare site at 285 Emu Park Road, Ellangowan—around 25 minutes south of Casino—the proposed project includes the construction, operation, maintenance, upgrading, and, in time, careful decommissioning of a large‑scale solar farm, supported by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).  

By harnessing the power of the sun through advanced photovoltaic (solar panel) technology, the farm is expected to produce up to 350 megawatts of renewable electricity. This will feed directly into the grid via an on‑site connection to TransGrid’s high‑voltage transmission lines.  

The 200MW / 800MWh battery system will store excess energy for use when the sun isn’t shining, ensuring a steady, reliable supply.  

Once operational, the project is anticipated to deliver around 707,000 megawatt hours of clean energy each year—enough to power approximately 115,000 average New South Wales homes —helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to a more sustainable energy future.  

This project represents a significant step toward a cleaner, greener NSW, while also bringing opportunities for the local community and economy.
